Cycads Personal

These are rare cycads we have collected over the years. They are not grown in a configured plot like the 150 Patch that is readily accessible and tillable but are grown in areas around our home for presentation.  Most are over 20 years old and have grown large.  Their size and placement on our property allows the buyer to see how they may look in their home setting.

List cost follows that of the container cycads.  The discount will vary according to accessibility, difficulty in digging and the use of equipment.

Encephalartos natalensis x Encephalartos woodii F2, in-ground, 17” caudex width, 32” caudex height, 108” leaf height.  SOLD!

This is an F2 filial generation woodii.  A highly favored green Encephalartos.

It features wide, cupped leaflets of the natalensis and deep green color of the woodii.  This is truly a specimen plant.

.

Provenance:  This cycad was developed by Liz Butler of El Cajon, CA.  This cycad’s essential ancestry required more than 20 years before the year 2000 starting with separate, pure species cycads of E. natalensis (f) and E. woodii (m), crossed to produce a female E. natalensis x E. woodii F1 which was crossed back to an E. woodii (m) to grow a 5 gallon size F2.  Acquired early 2000 from Don Kurth, Palm Mountain, Vista, CA then was grown in the ground here under high cover canopy of a Jacaranda tree for over 20 years.
